Suggest Treatment For Severe Body Rash
My mother was on the antibiotic Bactrim/Septra and has developed an extensive body rash. She stopped taking it immediately two days ago, but the rash is still there. It is on her neck, torso and part of her face, and looks like red patches. What should she do to get rid of the rash, or will it go away on it s own since she stopped the antibiotic? She has no fever, chills or swelling, just a nasty rash. Thanks

Rash from antibiotics requests that the antibiotic is stopped and seems your mother has already done this. This is the best and first step to treatment. She may also take some antihistamines (chlorpheniramine or benadryl) a few times a day to help with the symptoms (they cause drowsiness so be cautious). Normally the rash will disappear in the next 2-3 days even without treatment so she should not worry.
If she is not improving or she is getting any worse or develops shortness of breath or lip or eye swelling she needs to urgently see a doctor.
