Suggest Treatment For Severe Abdominal Pain And Diarrhea

My daughter has been dealing with a painful stomach since Christmas. She has in turn been blocked and then has diaherria. She can be fine one day and the next feel gross. She had an ultrasound and everything looks ok. She did have a serious tooth infection which was causing her to be sick in Movember. Tooth has since been removed. Could there be a possible connection such as a lingering infection or bacteria causing her stomach pain? we do have appointment with gastroentorologist next week.

Hello,

Lasting abdominal pain and combination of diarrhea and constipation might need some tests to rule out parasite infection and especially giardia infection. The proper tests would be stools for ova and parasites and stool antigen for giardia. Stools for ova and parasites can miss giardia very easily the the antigen is more accurate.
If the stool antigen test for giardia is not available patient can try a treatment with metronidazole for 5-7 days and see i it helps.
