Suggest treatment for runny nose, productive cough and body aches

I am a 26 year old. I have had a runny nose, productive cough, body aches, lack of energy, but no fever. I have had these same symptoms off and on for a couple weeks. I will have them for about a week or two and then feel better for a couple days before the same symptoms come back. What can I do?

Hello,

It appears that your symptoms are the result of allergy. Stay away from anything that triggers your allergy like pollen, animal dander, smoke, dust, dust mites, molds, passive smoking, pollution, etc. Take antihistamines at bed time. You can take decongestants for relieve. Gargle your throat with warm salt water.

Take cough syrups containing guaifenesin or dextromethorphan to get rid of chronic coughs. Get clinically examined by an ENT, get swab and sputum tests done. You will be accordingly treated with a course of antibiotics if needed. Stay well hydrated, avoid stress as it triggers cough ad asthma. Stay away from addictions if any.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
