Suggest Treatment For Runny Nose And Congestion Along With Severe Cough

My daughter got sick with a cold and runny nose (age 11 months) 9 days ago. The runny nose has not gone away. Periodically is green. She seems better now, but still the runny nose. Should she go to the doctor? I have been hot and cold several days now, have a cough that hurts, pain in the front of my neck/trachea when holding still, taking a breath, coughing and swallowing. What do you think and should we go to the Urgent Care? Thank you.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your complain your daughter seems to have Upper Respiratory Tract Infection leading to the symptoms of cold and runny nose on your daughter and as the immune system of infants is less developed the infection can take longer time to resolve..
As she is having running nose only and rest symptoms resolved you can put saline nasal rinses in her nostrils..
You can give her antihistamines like Benadryl..
Feed her with ample of breast milk as it has immunity factors that helps on fighting infection in infants..
Feed her with other warm fluids..
Give her ample of rest..
In case if there is no resolution in another one week consult a Paediatrician and get evaluated..

As far as your symptoms are concerned the symptoms of rose in body temperature, cough and sore throat can be due to conditions like upper respiratory tract infection, bronchitis, lung infection etc..
I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a chest x ray, sputum culture can be advised to confirm the cause..
You can be advised Antibiotics, Tylenol for fever cough suppressant containing Dextromethorphan and Guaifenesin, anti allergics, warm saline gargles and steam inhalation..
Avoid spicy and chilled foods and sip on warm water..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
