Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

First of all the augmentin should be taken for 14 days. And treatment for recurrent tonsillitis is surgical removal of tonsils as tonsillectomy. For recurrent tonsils you may give him syrup septillin half tsp two times for 15 days as a general tonic against bacterial infections. It is herbal formulation with good efficacy. You should try septillin before surgery.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

I was recently diagnosed with tonsillitis (no pain or symptoms but pus and white spots on tonsils) and put on a 10 day course of antibiotics (2 in the morning, 2 in the evenin). Around 2 days after taking the antibiotics the pus and white spots cleared. I forgot an evening dose at the weekend but continued to take as normal. On Sunday evening (day after missed dose) I noticed the pus has returned along with what looks like red/purple veins on the tonsils too. Is it possible the tonsillitis has returned due to the missed dose or could it be something else? I have no pain swallowing, don t have a sore throat or any other symptoms, just the white pus on tonsils.

I am a 62 year old female who woke up this morning with a severe sore throat, difficulty swallowing, swollen neck glands and generally feeling lousy. I ve been hoping that my symptoms would disappear as quickly. My symptoms have gotten worse. I think I have tonsillitis but at my age I thought I was out of the tonsillitis business. I did have recurrent tonsillitis as a child but my tonsils were obviously never removed. I ve been trying to decide if I need to go ahead and see my doctor or try to ride it out. At this point, I don t think I can ride it out. I thought tonsils shrunk in old age? What do you recommend I do?
