Suggest Treatment For Recurrent Migraines

I am a 31 year old female suffering from Migraines on a regular basis. The doctor has prescribed me Betacap tr40 one in the morning and Sebilium 10mg at night. When I know a migraine is coming on chew Rizact 10mg. Would any of these tablets have long term side effects where child birth is concerned? Please advise.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Mild headache during pregnancy can be managed with rest, plenty of fluids and paracetamol if necessary. Propranolol, amitriptyline and low dose aspirin may be used in severe migraine only after being examined by your physician. The drugs that should be avoided are high dose aspirin, ergot alkaloids, anti-convulsants and ibuprofen after 24 weeks of pregnancy.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
