Suggest Treatment For Prolonged Dry Hacking Cough, shortness Of Breath

I have had a prolonged dry hacking cough, some shortness of breath, general fatigue and lack of energy for several months. I ve had a couple episodes with severe headaches and nausea and where the coughing triggered my gag reflex and I vomited. I went to the doctor and got some medication, Z-PAC, Prometh with codeine, and methylpred. I ve only been on them a day, but I started checking my temperature and it us unusually low for me, 94.9 to 96.8. Is the low temperature anything to be concerned about before I see my doctor for a follow-up in two weeks?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since you are experiencing fatigue, shortness of breath for several months, it is indicative of lung and heart conditions. Get clinically examined by a GP, get blood tests, imaging tests and required investigations done for the lungs. Get routine cardiac tests done to rule out any developing pathology. Sometimes CAD, also causes fatigue.

Before taking medicines get diagnosed of any underlying heart or lung condition. You will be treated accordingly. In the meantime, to avoid dry cough you can take cough suppressants with dextromethorphan and diphenhydramine. Keep cough lozenges in your mouth. At bed time you can take antihistamine to get relieve from allergy triggering cough reflex.

Take sips of water whole day and stay well hydrated. Avoid smoking and exposure to bright sunlight. You should avoid exposure to pollutants and extremes of temperature. Do regular exercises. Get treated at the earliest.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
