Suggest Treatment For Persistent Nose Bleeds While Recovering From Bronchitis

I had a bronchitis for most of Oct. after that cleared up, I developed nose bleeds, some really bad ones that I packed my right nostril and had to leave there for 2-3 hrs. I don t blow my nose hard and don t sneeze hard. Just know started again while bending down and sorting some books and magazines. Sometimes it happens when first getting up in the am. I am 73 and have had 3 iron infusions within the last 2 years for low iron. Have never been anemic before. Told my Dr about 3 woks ago, didn t seem to concerned at the time, but getting worse. Any ideas as to what is causing this. B/P is fine, on verapamil.

Hi,

While recovering bronchitis possibility of nasal crust formation (avoid nasal picking)/dryness of nasal passage(apply petroleum gel). Avoid nasal blowing. Strong bout of coughs to be treated well.

Nasal infection due to damaged lactobacilli (maintaining normality of nasal cavity) & damaged nasal mucosa are possible causes for the nasal bleeds, which need to be avoided till the condition recovers well.

You are doing local management well. Except for keeping upright/sleeping in propped up position to avoid more blood supply & more nasal bleed.

In case the bleed lasts for more than 20 minutes/in case you are on blood thinners/in case you have developed anemia (& you had blood transfusion for it). You need consultation of ENT surgeon for finding deeper nasal bleeder & get it stopped by small surgical intervention.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
