Suggest Treatment For Persistent Mucus Due To Sinusitis

I was diagnosed with acute sinusitis / bronchitis and finished my second round of antibiotics (Levaquin 500mg) today. I also took a 7 day steroid treatment (prednisolone), but still battling mucus. What OTC medication can I take daily for maintenance?

Hi,

As per your complain as you have a recent history of Acute Sinusitis and Bronchitis, excess mucous production is commonly seen and it can take comparatively longer time to resolve. As you have already taken a course of steroids and two rounds of antibiotics you can now take medications to reduce mucous production and easy drainage, Mucolytics like Ambroxol or Bromohexine can be taken for relief from excess mucous production.

You can also do warm saline gargles and steam inhalations. Sip on plenty of warm water. Chew a Vitamin C pellet daily. In case if it does not improve consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like PNS view x ray of sinuses, chest x-ray etc can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly.

Hope this information helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thanks and regards,
