Hi, I have had a persistent dry cough for two months and despite two courses of antibiotics and a ventolin inhaler nothing seems to work. I have no fever and apart from some chest aches and pains i dont feel massively unwell. Immediately prior to this i did have a diagnosis of a severe lower lung infection which seemed to clear up after antibiotics, although im left with this dry cough. My GP has referred me to a lung cancer specialist but this is two weeks away and I am terrified that I may have cancer. Are the symptoms of anything else consistent with this?
Thanks for asking in healthcaremagic forum Cough can be due to irritation from upper respiratory tract to lower respiratory tract along with other causes which put pressure on lungs from below(gaseous distension of stomach). As your cough is chronic (more than 6 weeks) , you need to be investigated for pathologies causing chronic cough which include Tuberculosis and possible carcinoma. So, please follow your doctor's advice and undergo investigations to rule out these two mentioned above. All the best.
