Suggest Treatment For Panic Attacks

hi, thamk you very much for reading my concerns. I use d to be a hard core intraveinious meth user. I quit five years ago. But when I was using I remember having great pain and circulation difficulty in my arms at night when I would go to bed. it would keep me up in serious pain and Id have to get up and walk around or something to get my heart rate up . then the pain would slighty go away. I have not had any such problem until lately when I relapased. But this time I am not shooting, I smoked and still circulation type pain in my arms and now deep within my chest. It hurts so bad I thought I was having a HEART ATTACK SO I WENT TO THE E.R. AND THEY GAVE ME AN E.K.G. AND RULED IT OUT ONLYTO BE A PANIC ATTACK.(I ALSO SUFFER FROM P.T.S.D.) I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED AN PANIC ATTACK LIKE THAT BEFORE I FEEL LIKE ITS MY CIRCULATORY SYSTEM. CAN YOU PLEASE HELP. THANK YOU

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Your past as a meth user is a limiting factor when we talk about medication. If you have a GP, tell him about your panic attacks and ask him about propranolol and psychotherapy. Propranolol is a beta blocker, not habit forming and has been in use for over 50 years. However it being a benign medication, it can become very dangerous if the dose is too high. So never take it without a GP who will tell you how much to take is the right dose.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Alexander Davis, General & Family Physician
