Suggest Treatment For Painful Swollen Left Calf Muscle

Hello, My friend s calf muscle has been bothering him for the past week. His left calf is swollen, the muscle feels harder than the other calf and he is in pain. It doesn t appear to have any redness in the area. Do you have any information or suggestions of what to do about it?

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Swelling and pain in calf could be due to trauma to the calf.
Is there any history of trauma or injury to the calf in recent past?
If there is no such history then you need to get some investigations to find the cause of swelling and pain.
A clinical assessment is required to determine the probable cause of swelling and pain.
Disorders of the veins (deep vein thrombosis of veins of calf) can also lead to localized calf pain.
In such case doppler ultrasound of the lower limb is required.
Absence of any disorder of deep veins suggests presence of some abnormality of muscles and soft tissues.
In that case a MRI may be helpful.
Thus, a clinical assessment aong with investigations will determine the cause of symptoms and management can be planned thereafter.

Thanks and take care
