Suggest Treatment For Pain In Throat With A History Of Strep Throat

I am having pain in my throat for about 6 days when swallowing, yawning or sneezing. I have a history of strep throat, even with a tonsilectomy 20 years ago. I had a low grade fever the first couple days, have been taking penicillin for 3 days. Fever relief, but continued sore throat, different from when I ve had strep. Taking ibuprofen for pain as needed. Glands don t feel swollen, but uvula and soft palate appear red in areas, not spots. Why is my throat sore consistently still?

Hello,
infections that reoccur can be more resistant. Make sure you take a prescription antibiotic as prescribed. this means taking the dose at the correct intervals. Amoxicillin at a stronger dose may be effective. I suggest you Consider Augmentin. This is very effective with a broad spectrum. Discuss your antibiotic choice and concern with resistance further with your doctor. Antiinflammitory medication is a good addition to help reduce discomfort. Keep well hydrated and avoid irritants. If possible, try to limit your exposure to strep and those infected.
You may need cultures to detect other strains of bacteria present if this dose not resolve.
Thank you for your inquiry. I hope that my suggestions offer you relief.
