Suggest Treatment For Pain In The Body While Suffering From Shingles
I am a diabetic. I had the shingles shot but I still had shingles in August of this year (and forward). I have nerve damage and am still having pain in my sides above the waist, and in my leg below the knee. Recently, I have also been having pain below the waist on the left side (almost like when I used to have with menstral cycle). Do you think this is more nerve pain or something else?
Shingles can happen even if you get the vaccine if you have had the infection before the vaccine as it sleeps in the nerves and may activate time after time and cause the skin break up. The pain can be to many possible causes, shingles can cause nerve pain in the area due to nerve damage but diabetes as well can cause neuropathy which is nerve damage and problems with lack of feeling sensation in the area or pain. Other conditions might be causing the pain as well, muscular or other organs.
A good visit with your doctor will identify the possible cause and lead to the best treatment. If the doctor thinks the pain is due to zoster or diabetic neuropathy then treatment with amitriptyline or gabapentine can be tried.
I hope I have answered to your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Kind regards,
Antoneta Zotaj General & Family Physician
