Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was experiencing pain in my big toe on my right foot for 2 day. I thought I might have an ingrown toenail. Today day 3 it was to painful for me to ignore. I took my shoe and sock off and noticed that the skin was inflamed around the nail and it looked like I was holding pus or a fluid. I sterilized a needle and inserted it into the bottom of the nail that appeared like pus. Then I took it and inserted it into the top of the toenail underneath the nail. A light bloody pus oozed out of both insertions. I m applying hydrogen peroxide to it now. It feels a bit better but I know for a fact I will lose the nail. It s loose. I should mention that the bottom of where the toe meets the base of the foot looks bruised.
It's not advisable to do this removal of any kind of fluid or pus from such a sensitive area of your body on your own with needles even though that are sterile. First thing there are high chances that you make the problem even more severe by doing this as it can lead to another infection. The second thing is you might damage the important structures nearby during this which will be even more painful and dangerous.
As you mentioned the big toe is inflamed and some blood mixed with pus came out after inserting the needle. Needless to say there is infection of the tissue. It needs medical attention, if required, need to drain the pus and very important to take broad-spectrum antibiotics for it.
So see a doctor and get it examined, follow the doctor’s advice as he might or might not ask you to get some blood tests done as well as prescribe you appropriate antibiotics and some pain relief medicines so that you recover quickly.
Keep the big toe clean so that you don’t infect it with other infectious agents. Follow your doctor’s advice and you will feel better. Hope this helps.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
