Dear user of Healthcaremagic!
Thank you for asking us!

I understand the symptoms you describe. you don't mention any cough, weight loss recently, or fever. Just a sharp pain when you breathe. In most of the cases it may be due to muscle spasms, or inflammation of rib joints (costochondritis) or pleura (pleurisy). First is cured by anti inflammatory drugs, second with antibiotics. But also other different issues may be involved behind. You have been a 15 years smoker. You have to do a simple x-ray or CT-scan just to make sure your health is going good.

Take care, and best wishes!
Dr Eriol.
