Suggest Treatment For Nausea, Vomiting And Anaemia In An Elderly Person

Hi there, I am a 69 year old female and have had ongoing upper right quadrant pain for over 2 years, along with two episodes of dramatic weight loss(14 1/2 stone down to 11 stone), nausea, vomiting, anaemia. I have have finally been diagnosed with paraesophogeal hiatus hernia, with approximately half my stomach being pushed up into my diaphragm. Is this life threatening and how urgent is treatment for this condition?

Hello,

A hiatus hernia causes morbidity by causing regurgitation, gastritis, heartburn in addition to nausea, vomiting and anemia.

Definitive treatment of a hiatus hernia is surgical repair of a hernia.

I suggest you consult your gastro-surgeon for assessment and surgical repair of a hernia.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shailja Puri , Pathologist and Microbiologist
