Suggest Treatment For Muscle Spasms In Throat And Jaws

I have been feeling strange in my throat and jaw, it feels like muscles spasm and sometimes gets worse after i laugh and talk for quite some time. This feeling comes and goes so atimes I dont feel anything at all. Sometimes the spasm spreads down my neck and I feel like saliva is stuck somewhere in my jaw and down one side of my throat, sometimes. I had a series of panic attacks 3 months ago which has significantly subsided, I also had a bout of GERD a few months ago which comes every now and then depending on what I eat. I also occasionally have soar throat though I havent had in over a month. One particular day, it felt like saliva was on one side of my jaw when I woke up in the morning, I noticed that particularly spot had swelled up, it hurt a little when i touched it. After a while the swelling seemed to move down my neck and it disappeared. Its a strange feeling and so need advice has to what to do, should I be worried?

Hi Dear ,

As per your query you have muscle spasms in throat and jaws and this feeling comes very often, well there can be many reasons for symptom you mention in query like bruxism , TMJ problem , stress and anxiety , sore throat or muscle spasm. I would suggest you to take small meals and frequent meals rather than large. Do stretching exercises of neck and jaw muscles , apply warm compresses on jaw and neck muscles and try to make yourself relax. Doctor may prescribe muscle relaxant , anti inflammatory , refer you to orthodontist for alignment of teeth or ENT specialists if he/she find problem to be related with sore throat . Doctor may also give you night guard and sedatives. Consult oral surgeon for proper diagnosis . Doctor will examine the bite plane , order CT scan or x-ray. Avoid intake of oily and fried food and drink plenty of water.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
