Suggest Treatment For Mosquito Bites With Red Rings
I have seen many questions about mosquitoe bites with red rings around them. I am wondering how long these can take to go away? My 6 year old got bit many times while in Yellowstone 2 weeks ago and just over this weekend had what looks like welts in the shape of rings around a lot of them. I first used calamine lotion on them and it seemed to get worse. The last couple days I have used a steroid cream on them, in conjunction with oral allergy meds, but they do not seem to be getting better. Is this normal? Or should I take her to her pediatrician?
The mosquito bites can last for some days. I recommend to wash the bite area a few times a day and apply antibiotic ointment, such as Bacitracin / Polymyxin (Polysporin). Apply a cold, wet cloth to the bite area for a few minutes at a time to relieve swelling. It will relieve gradually, so you should not be worried.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
