Suggest Treatment For Milky White Vaginal Discharge And Burning Sensation In The Vagina

About a month ago I began noticing some strange symptoms in my vaginal area. I noticed that my discharge started coming out more cloudy milky white and thicker than usual. Also, i started noticing that my discharge had an unusual strong fishy odor. I am sexually active and for about a week i noticed that my vaginal area would begin to burn a little during intercourse, then during the same week i had some itching in that area as well. The itching and burning stopped shortly; however, i still have the bad odor and thick cloudy milky white discharge coming from my vaginal area (the odor has decreased a lot though). What does that mean? Can it be a bacterial infection or can it be some sort of STD? Thank you.

Hello,
I have gone through your query and understood the concern. Your symptoms point to the possibility of monilial infection. Your sexual partner also needs to be tested for the infection and properly treated. You need a proper local examination, cervical and vaginal swabs and a sonogram of the pelvis, preferably in the trans-vaginal route. Urinalysis also is needed to exclude urinary infection which is most often co-existing. Do not worry, this condition is treatable with proper management. Do not douche or use strong soap solutions to clean the genital region. You can use mild antiseptic solutions instead. Hope this helps.
