Suggest Treatment For Migraine And Heartburn

I have had a headache for two weeks with heart burn as well. I had a full blown migraine on Thursday/Friday. I have never had a full blown migraine before and have been on Excedrin Migraine for three days to keep it away. Any ideas? I am 50, 5 4 230 lbs (yes overweight). Going thru menopause.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The headache, heart burn while going through menopause, may be a part of underlying hormone imbalance as well rather than migraine or migraine flare up due to certain physiologic changes. My guidelines at present:
- Meditations and YOGA
- Deep breathing exercises will prove cornerstone of therapy
- Medicines as paracetamol, acetaminophen or tramadol hydrochloride after meals as per choice and guidelines of your consultant
- Secondary consideration of Ergotamine or Tryptan molecules come into picture if above fails

- Antacid as Mylanta or proton pump inhibitor as Esomeprazole with sips of water on empty stomach
- Discuss the scope and need of HRT (Hormone replacement therapy) with your doctor if not done already

- Control of blood sugar, cholesterol, body weight
- Control of anxiety, stress
- A regular sound sleep of 6-7 hours
- Avoidance of smoking or alcohol if consuming
- Avoid caffeine or recreational drugs if consuming as well

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
