Suggest Treatment For Metastatic Colon Cancer

My sister in law is currently in surgery for colon cancer. It has spread to her liver. Chemo had been working. she had a setback with a blood clot in her leg. she had a fever and abscess. What is her outlook ? They want to resume chemo after the surgery since it had been working.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,
I can understand your concern for your sister-in-law's health.
1) Chemo is must in such advanced cases because chemo+surgery has excellent results.
2) In case cancer spread in liver does not resolve completely, second schedule of chemo can be tried based on patient's general condition and response to chemo. Otherwise surgery can be planned for limited spread of cancer to liver.
3) Colon cancer having limited spread to liver has excellent result.
4) blood clot in leg is frequent complication after long surgery, prolong immobilization. It will require medical treatment.
5) Chemo make patient prone to acquire infection due to low immunity.

Hope I answered your query. If you have any further doubts, I would like to help further.
Have a nice day!
