Suggest Treatment For Lump Above Navel

I have a small lump above my belly button in between my abs. It doesn t hurt and I can move it around a little. It s more noticeable when I stretch my stomach upward. I lift weights frequently and am wondering if I should hold off for a bit and get it checked out.

Hi,

If you put your finger on it and cough, does it bulge out more when you cough? This can be an umbilical herniation. Lifting weight will increase the abdominal pressure and sometimes herniations occur.

An umbilical hernia is not dangerous in itself, but there is a risk that bowel gets it trapped (incarcerated) which is life threatening if it occurs.

I would get it checked by a general surgeon, as they have great experience dealing with abdominal hernias.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Ahmad Nazzal
