Suggest Treatment For Lower Back Injury While On Ibuprofen

I have been struggling with a lower back injury...for two months it felt like a pulled muscle, then for the past three months it turned into muscle tightness and spasms...I have been to chiropractor twice...two deep tissue massage....4 weeks of physical therapy who basically is telling me to keep back straight to let it heal (over extend posture)....it has been slowly getting better where I can start doing more things if I take ibuprofen when I know I ll be on my feet a lot and the spasms have become less often and less intense...however yesterday a co-worker gave me a very strong bear hug and lifted me off the floor...went into an immediate whole back spasm and has been horribly sore ever since...now taking 3 ibrofen ever 6 hrs to be able to function...did have a back x-ray awhile back and was told it is muscular...no herniated disks or anything....I am miserable....

H,

Based on the history you have shared, you need to add muscle relaxants like tizanidine or orphenidine to the analgesics like Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen. If X-ray was unremarkable, CT or MRI of lumbar spine might be needed.

Support belt may also be helpful. Physiotherapist review and guided excercises are recommended.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
