Suggest Treatment For Loose Stool And Fever In An Infant

hello my baby is 8 months old. his weight is 7.5 kgs..he is running a temperature of 98.4. he has been passing mildly loose stools , since yesterday evening around 6 times. today it has been only once since morning. he is also quite irritable. Doctor has prescribed Ofloxacin syrup-50 , twice a day for 3 days along with paracetamol syrup-250mg/5ml. i am not so sure about giving Ofloxacin. kindly advise whether to start him on the same or some alternative antibiotic. Regards.

Hi, welcome to HCM.
Most of the times, loose stools in an infant is viral and don't need any antibiotics. Since, your child has no fever, this seems to be viral diarrhea. If I was your treating doctor, i would have given ORS solution about 70 ml each stool to prevent dehydration and enterogermina ampule once a day to increase gut immunity. In my opinion, there is no need of antibiotics at present.
I hope this has helped you. Take care.
