Suggest Treatment For Left Shoulder Pain

Had X-ray on left shoulder because of pain. Findings: calcification seen within soft tissue adjacent to the greater tuberosity. Surgical clips seen within left axils. No fractures or dislocation. My question is should I be concerned and will my shoulder/arm pain go away? I had bilateral mastectomy 2012 no chemo or radiatin needed.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

There can be various reasons for calcification over left greater tuberosity as chronic inflammation, calcium homeostasis imbalance, concern with previous cancer surgery or else. However, a detailed physical examination, range of motion with MRI of the shoulder is must to proceed in this regard and give best possible opinion ahead for the therapeutic approach.

Till the time, you revert back with the follow up, I would suggest:
- Local application of heating pad
- Analgesic spray or ointment containing diclofenac, Linseed oil, camphor or menthol
- Anti inflammatory with analgesic medications
- Control of serum calcium level after lab reports evaluation
- Control of body weight and blood sugar
- Assisted physiotherapy with an expert physiotherapist

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
