Suggest Treatment For Itchy Red Scalp

My daughter is 3 and started off with a red scab on her hairline which looked like it may have been irritated due to her itching it and then later in the day, a jeyellow crust showed up over it. I figured it was puss and put antibiotic cream on it. 2 days later more scabs showed up on the back of her neck and now onto her shoulders. She says they itch. What could it be? Should I be worried and is it contagious?

Hi,

Based on your description, it looks like your daughter has a yeast infection of the scalp. I would recommend you to see a dermatologist, who can asses the severity of the condition, and prescribe oral and topical medication. The condition is contagious, and can spread via contact with the infected skin.Meanwhile, I would recommend you to take selenium sulphate shampoo, which stops the disease from spreading, until you see a dermatologist.

I hope I have answered your question. Wish your daughter good health.
