Suggest Treatment For Itchy Rash Near The Breasts

My 11 year old daughter has just started developing breasts. For about a week to 1.5 weeks, she has had a rash around her bra line then tonight it is also showing around her panty lines. It doesn t seem to really itch much but it doesn t look good. Should I take her to her pediatrician?

Hello,
Thank you for posting your question to HCM.

From what you are describing, the location is typical of that or either a contact dermatitis (a reaction of the skin because of the frequent rubbing and friction) or a fungal skin infection.

In both cases, the most important thing to do is ti keep the area as much dry as possible. She may use a baby powder to help with that.
To clear the rash she may need to use an antifungal cream. I generally recommend to my patients to use Ketoconazole 2%, twice/day think layer, for 1-2 weeks until it clears up.
It is in general a very safe medicine, so don't worry about side effects. If she doesn't get better in 2 weeks time, then yes, consider taking her to see a pediatrician or family doctor.

Hope I answered your question.
Take care.
