Suggest Treatment For Irregular Heart Beat

My husband has an irregular heart beat and has had it for 4 days now. He has tried taking extra Sotalol and electrolyte but it is not working. He has been taking an aspirin each day. We are away visiting our daughter. Today is her birthday and he does not want to alarm her. I am worried.

Cardiologist 's  Response
Dear patient,

Thanks for the query. The first step should be to get an ECG and determine what the rhythm is, since it is a different story if it atrial fibrillation versus ventricular tachycardia. A formal evaluation is deemed necessary, since arrythmias may signal an underlying stressor, such as infection, electrolyte derangements, etc.

Hope this helps, wish you the best,
