Suggest Treatment For Interstitial Lung Fibrosis And Thickening Of Lung Walls

Interstitial lung fribrosis, just been diagnosed, what can I do to slow progression, is there any treatment. I have never smoked , I am nearly 65 years young, small food particles were found in my lungs, (nighttime GERD) plus X Rays showed thickening on walls of lower lungs and some stiffening. I want to be proactive and do anything I can to help, I welcome your advice. thank You

Hi

Lung fibrosis is seen when there is fibrosing or scarring of the lungs. This can make it difficult to breath and it can cause a restrictive lung disease.

There are many reasons for this but it may not always be seen with smoking. Firstly, you would need to diagnose why this is happening. In case this is happening because of enzyme deficiency or some other similar reason, you would need to address that. A biopsy of the lung can help with this diagnosis.

Along with this, using a machine to increase the depth or breathing and increasing the force of respiration. Along with this, having a good diet and eating lots of food and drinking lots of water can help.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Vignan Rachabattuni
