Suggest Treatment For Inflamed Roof Of Mouth, Headache And Jaw Pain

Hello, the roof of my mouth (soft palate) is inflamed and very painful. Somewhat down into my tonsils/throat. Making it difficult to swallow.I have a throbbing headache and pain that seems to move through my jaw line and into a slight earache from time to time... most of the pain seems to be settling in my jaw at the time being and is very uncomfortable. .. I have been taking ibuprofen and baking soda paste for roof of my mouth. & salt water rinse.

Hello,

Your symptoms could be due to upper respiratory tract infection including pharyngitis, tonsillitis and ear infection. You seem to have a tooth problem that's causing jaw pain and headache. It may also be due to any salivary gland swelling. Aphthous ulcers also cause pain in jaw and soft palate. To those who come to my clinic with similar symptoms I advise thorough clinical examination for the focus of infection.

If necessary, do blood tests. Take antibiotic tab. Amoxicillin 625 mg with Potassium Clavulanate for 5 days. NSAIDs for pain relief like Ibuprofen Acetaminophen. If fever persists tab. Acetaminophen every 6th hourly. Salt water rinsing of mouth. If your symptoms won't subside even after above treatment for 5 days, please do consult an ENT specialist.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
