Suggest Treatment For Inability To Chew In Childhood Gastro-oesophageal Reflux Patient

Hi my teenage son is & has been a Gastro patient sense birth. With G-Tube Fundoplication. All of his swallow study results have only suggested he s at risk of aspiration due to him not being able to chew his foods, he can only swallow, though over the yrs I ve also been encouraged to teach him how to use his oral skills, to which he s advanced, he can swallow solid smushed foods fine, rarely a gag, but has never been able to chew. & his xrays never once ever showed aspiration or penetration on nectar, solids, & or honey. My question is, though the swallow study suggest we puree his foods, I ve been smushing his foods, not pureeing. Do I have a medical right as a parent to choose to & prepare his foods the way I know he has been able to tolerate them through out his life? This is important to me to know. I feel I do. Thanks for your professional advice.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Yes, you can prepare and choose his foods too. Just follow instructions of the doctor if any specifics are given. As this kid has already undergone surgery and medicines. Continue those guidelines and visit those physicians routinely. There is one research which suggests a better outcome in gastro patients. If they practise sahaj meditation technique of 'Art of Living', you both can attend this workshop as kids feel better with their parents.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
