Suggest Treatment For Hypertension Showing In The Capillaries And Shortness Of Breath

Ok. I have hypertension (under control with Mavik). I started retaining fluid. Did blood tests and it s NOT kidney issues. They sent me for ultrasound tests - abdominal, pelvic and heart. Heart is ok, but there is hypertension showing in the capillaries and I experience shortness of breath from it. They have given me diuretics and that s helpful but not solving the problem. They have recommended that I see a specialist but I will be buying next year s calendar to record the appointment if I ever get one! What is this called and what can I expect?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since you have a history of hypertension with shortness of breath. You also have fluid retention, you are suggested to cut on salt intake. Salt causes water retention. USG of the heart may be fine but you are suggested to get a cardiac check up done. You should go through stress test, echocardiography, EKG, Lipid function test, X-ray to detect any developing coronary artery disease.

Hypertension is often chronic and progressive, it should be treated in time. Neglect may lead to CAD. Take home made food in olive oil, exercise. avoid packed, caned, pickled, junk & oily food. Maintain low BMI & healthy lifestyle(cut on smoking, alcohol, addictions if any).

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
