Suggest Treatment For Hyper-pigmentation And White Patches On Face

Whats the difference between hyperpigmentation and white patches on face? I have paler skin on my cheeks area around my nose but darker skin around mouth, on the sides of my face and on the forehead. I also have almost unnoticeable white spots on the darker skin areas too. However, both these colours don t match my original one. What exactly could this be?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Hyperpigmentation refers to areas that are darker than the surrounding skin. The white patches may be due to different possible causes, the most common would be fungal infection or less commonly lichen sclerosis.

It would be best to see a dermatologist for assessment and treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
