Suggest Treatment For Heart Murmur In Newborns

My son (who is now 2mos old) was born with a heart murmur and we were advised to keep him away from second hand smoke (which we have). However, the affects of second hand smoke in relation to his murmur were never explained to my fiance and I. We were wondering if anyone could tell us how his heart would be directly affected.

I understand your concern and went through your query with diligence.Since your baby has a heart murmur,doctor has asked to avoid second hand or passive smoking for him.This is because babies already have a high chances of getting asthma,bronchitis,pneumonia and allergies after they are exposed to smoke environments.In some cases we have seen Sudden infant death syndrome in babies exposed to smoking.

Since your son already has a heart murmur,such lung infections might complicate his condition leading to an over-stressed heart,which we would not want.This is not just for his heart murmur but a complete healthy baby should also avoid such environments.
