Suggest Treatment For Headaches, Burning Eyes And Dizziness

Hello, I am a 39 year old femaie. For the past few weeks, I have been suffering with headaches - mostly behind my eyes that make me feel like I m constantly squinting with burning eyes. I don t wear glasses or contacts. However, what is bothering me more is the feeling of dizziness. I feel foggy, like I m seasick and lightheaded. I haven t fainted, but sometime I feel like I may. I went to urgent care and saw a PA who did a neuro workup - following my finger, touch your nose, close your eyes and try to stand straight etc... She then prescribed Meclizine 25mg for the dizziness. However, it makes me very sleepy so I can t take it during the day as I m a teacher. My symptoms didn t get better so I saw my primary care physician who conducted blood tests and ruled out anemia (which I thought it may be), thyroid and cholesterol issues. She prescribed a headache medication that I can t take more than 10 times a week, but that is not helping either. She also did an EKG and a small irregularity was found so she is ordering more tests that won t happen for a couple of weeks. I ve been taking Citalopram 20mg for many years (formerly 40 mg), and the doctor told me that she will order another cardiac test due to that medication causing possible complications. My question for you is - how do I get through the next couple weeks of working and family life with a constant feeling of fogginess and dizziness? I ve been an avid runner for more than 20 years, so I m having a hard time believing that my heart is causing this awful feeling. Should I ask for a brain scan of some sort? Thank you for any insight you could provide.

Hello,

As per the symptoms described by you, these can be caused by multiple factors. Although a brain scan seems mandatory to me, till then you need to get your blood sugar and blood pressure check up as well.

The symptoms of a headache, brain fog and dizziness can be caused by fluctuation in either of these two conditions.

Apart from that, I will suggest you keep yourself hydrated well. For that take ample amounts of fluids.

As the symptoms can have multiple etiologies, you should get your complete blood investigations including a renal and hepatic workout.

Apart from that, get your visual acuity testing and inner ear check-up as well that could be a possible cause for the symptoms.

No doubt that the medication is taken by you (Citalopram) is having a known profile for causing dizziness, you can certainly get it changed for some other medication.

As the symptoms have too many different etiologies, hence the treatment is dependent on the relevant tests and their specific treatment.

Do get all the above-mentioned health checkups to come to a conclusion.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
