Suggest Treatment For Hallucinations While On Bupropion

I am starting to experience hallucinations after restarting levodopa. I have noticed increasing hair loss from my head and have occasional Blue cold fingers. 3 different neurologists are not sure that I have Parkinson s because I am still physically active and have no gait issues yet although the tremors in my left hand and arm are more noticeable and occasionally spread to the rest of my body. After neuro psych testing which documented delayed reaction time, spacial perception difficulties, and executive decision making deficiencies, these hallucinations have just started. What does this mean? I am also taking Bupropion for mild depression.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You have been started on Bupropion for depression. You are also taking Levodopa for your Parkinson disease. I would like to tell you that both these medicines are known to cause or worsen psychosis and hallucinations can occur because of them. So, you require a good anti-psychotic with minimal side effects so your Parkinson problem doesn't exaggerates. If I were your psychiatrist, I would have started you on Quetiapine for hallucinations. You can continue taking these medicines if your diagnosis of depression and Parkinson are confirmed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Prashant Gohil
