Suggest Treatment For Fungal Infection On The Scalp And Hair Loss

I have been told i have a fungal infection on my scalp which is causing hair loss and itching. The PA said i do not have ringworm; i had asked because i have a cat but she has no symptoms of hair loss etc. I got the shampoo to treat head and a medication to stimulate hair growth to use once a day for 4 weeks. Is this all I have to do to eliminate the infection and prevent its spread all over my head making all my hair come out in these spots? What causes the fungal infections? I am quite concerned because this seems to be progressing from small spots on various places of scalp to a very large one at base of neckline.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that you have Seborrheic Dermatitis and it is one of the common cause for hair loss as the hair follicles are destroyed by the fungus..
As you are given shampoo it must be containing Ketoconazole while other ingredients containing shampoos like Coal tar, salicylic acid, sulfides, zinc and selenium can help..
You can also be advised to apply steroid lotion over the scalp..
You can also massage the scalp with coconut oil..
Keep the scalp clean and wash your hairs every alternate day..
For hairfall you might be advised to apply 2%-5% Minoxidil lotion over scalp..
Take multivitamin and mineral supplements..
Drink plenty of water and add more of fresh fruits and green vegetables in diet..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
