Suggest Treatment For Fractured Ribs And Constipation

I fractured ribs 10 and 11 on the left side of my back by falling backward on some steps. This was seven weeks ago today and I am still having constipation even with stool softeners when I was still taking pain meds and for the last week my doctor has had me on Miralax. I can have bowel movements, but they don t come as frequently or as easily as before the injury. Is this within the normal range of complications that can follow a fracture of two lower ribs?

Hi,

Yes. It is pretty common to have constipation after injury of two lower ribs because it will decrease the bowel movements. If lactulose doesn't suit you, you can take Bisacodyl.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
