Suggest Treatment For Fever In Child

Dear Doctor, my son 2 years and 2 months presented with high fever today with no other symptoms. 39.3 degrees Celsius. Took him to ER and doc gave Tylenol/paracetamol to bring down temp. No ear infection, no sore throat. Doc said probably some infection which will manifest in a couple of days. Right now my son is sleeping and his head and neck is boiling hot (no exagerration). Extremely hot. Yet from the end of his neck going down his body is very cold. Took his temperature through armpits and his temp is 36.5 degrees C. Why would the neck and head only be so hot and rest of the body cold to the touch?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
If our body is generating more heat than normal then there is a natural process to dissipate that heat. Heat loss from blood vessels on our skin and sweating is making body of your child cold. Besides paracetamol cold sponging and rehydration (lots of water) can prove better for your child. Your doctor is right that with passage of time more symptoms will appear or if not laboratory tests may be performed.
