Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My heart rate is 170 because I ran out of my Metoprolol and am having difficulty getting doc/pharmacy to refill so I ve been taking Benicar for the past couple of days. BP is only 135/95. Is there anything I can do tonight to lower my heart rate? It s making me sick to my stomach.
Hi welcome to HCM. Elevated blood pressure and heart rate in your case seem to be due the sudden withdrawal of the antihypertensive drugs like metoprolol in your case. This has resulted in rebound elevation of these parameters. You need to quickly get back to these drugs at the earliest to prevent worsening heart function.Drugs like anxiolytics will help to reduce the excess heart rate and palpitations.I advise you to have a baseline 2 dimensional echo to rule out organic heart disease.Consult your cardiologist for further queries. Thank you.
