my mom is having swelling in her knee....some doctors r saying that it is due to the secretion of fluid called edema.......her weight is 112 .we had done all the check ups ...the results were good. ..but the swell is still there what will the problem?
Hello 1 Is swelling in the knee or around the knee? 2 Is swelling only in one knee or both knee? 3 Is there any injury or not ( history of illness). However there are few common causes of swelling in the knee are retention of synovial fluid in knee i.e non absorption of fluid or accumulation of fluid . Cause may be old case of injury or osteoarthosis or infection of knee joint. As tuberculosis is the most common cause of knee swelling ( if we don't know other reason). Typical tubercles develop in the synovial membrane which become bulky & inflamed & an infected effusion collects in the synovial cavity. Diagnosis can be confirmed by culture and drug sensitivity test of aspirated fluid from knee joint( aspiration require ). In my opinion consult an orthopedic surgeon and get his opinion ( 2nd ) as get in blood for E S R, C B C , C T SCAN examination of knee joint. Good luck.
