Suggest Treatment For Edema And Pain In The Ankle

I rolled my ankle during a lacrosse game on Sunday. My ankle swelled right away and is still pretty swollen even with icing it. I have pain on the ankle bone and its tender to touch on the lateral side of my ankle. There is a dull pain that shoots up the side of my leg. Is there anything I should be doing differently besides icing? When do I become concerned that is more than a sprain?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

It could be due to minor contusion or sprain following the injury.

As of now, you can apply ice packs and take analgesics like Aceclofenac or Tramadol for pain relief.

If symptoms persist you can consult an orthopedician and get an MRI scan done.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
