Suggest Treatment For Dull Pain In The Upper Chest Area

My husband is experiencing a dull ache or pain since about 5:30 am today. It is located on the right side of his upper chest stretching from upper right shoulder down to the middle of his chest. He is 64 years old and is on imdur and Lipitor. He sees a cardiologist. He says the pain is better now going away slowly. Is it reason for concern?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thank you for you question to HCM.
As your husband is already a known cardiac patient on drugs ,
I would advise you to get an ECG done and review with his cardiologist.
Right sided chest pain is not typical of angina , but it is better to make sure nothing is seriously wrong.

If his ECG is normal with normal vital signs( Blood pressure, pulse rate)
then the pain could be due to some other reason.

Other common possibilities are
1. Dyspepsia- Burning type pain associated with nausea
2. Musculoskeletal- If there is any history of trauma / heavy exertion/
severe cough , pain will aggrevate with movements , on sneezing.

Hope this information has been helpful.
