Suggest Treatment For Dry Cough After Having Suffered From A Heart Attack

My wife, aged 65, recently suffered a heart attack. Her conditions were so that she could not undergo any invasive procedure. She ison medication taking a number of tablets each time in the morning and night. She is suffering from dry cough for a spell of one and a half to two hours almost daily, especially after 1.00 am. Is this a side effect of the medicines? Can you suggest ways to control such coughs? Thank you,b

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the heart attack patient is on a number of medications as beta blocker, diuretic, ACE inhibitor, calcium channel blocker, anti anginal, anti platelet and so on.

Out of the number of medications, an ACE inhibitor as enalapril or lisinopril is associated with the dry cough as chief side effect and has to be acted upon seriously.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
