My mother is 80 y/o and has been warfarin for about 14 years due to stroke. Lately she has had severe dizziness and bad headaches. Her BP fluctuates but lately been a little on the high side....anywhere from 130/64 to 176/90. Recently she has also been on antibiotics which may have affected her coumadin level. It is usually 2.5 but last night in the ER is was 1.9. All other lab work was normal. CT of head, chest, and abdomen normal. No bleeds or anuerysms. Can the coumadin level make her feel this way or maybe the medicine itself?
an hypertensive with warfarin, there is always a predisposition for vascular insult in brain. Keeping the bleeding time in check regularly and controlling blood pressure is advisable. A local neurologist can be approached for headache.
