Suggest Treatment For Diverticulitis

I had abdominal pain on left side and was diagnosed with diverticulitis 2 months ago. antibiotic worked but since then 3 weeks ago I had bad stomach cramps and mushy stools for 4 days until I ate a lot of cauliflower, carrots and salad which came out barely digested in 6 hours. not sure if that did the trick but I was fine for 2 weeks till sunday 5 days ago. it seems to be back with a vengeance, strong stomach cramps before BM, always mush, dark dark brown to yellowish, and green now. im not sure if I need to be concerned. I m waiting on obamacare card for insurance. I hate to eat cuz that will lead to cramps and mush stool. I bm 1/4 to half of a normal stool movement 8 - 12 times a day compared to my full normal movement 1-2 times a day. Veggies haven t helped yet

Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,

I have read your whole history and understand the concern.

Diverticuloum is a abnormal outward projection of mucosa of colon.
When it is get infected,it is known as diverticulitis. You might have repeated infection of this leading to stomach cramps or dark brown diarrhea etc.

You should take complete course of antibiotics ( quinolones or cephalosporins) with antiprotozoals like metronidazole with some symptomatic drugs like antiemetics, antispasmodics, probiotics and other supportive treatment with dietary restrictions to low fat and high protein.

But the main cure will be surgical removal of diverticulam because of repeated gut infection or they could be also chances of complications like peritonitis or acute bowel obstruction etc.

So,better you see gastrosurgeon who will examine you thoroughly with some relevant test and can start some definitive treatment.
