Suggest Treatment For Dilated Right Ventricle

My 13 Year old granddaughter was born with and had repaired transposition of the great artery s and two holes in her heart by the time she was 1 year old. There have been no heart issues until recently. We had a new Ped. Cardiologist 10/2014 and he basicly said all is well, see you in two years. He retired so in comes a new cardiologist. So far we have had an echo, stress test on a tread mill, heart MRI and now they( he and a team he works with) are suggestion a right heart cath. He says the left ventrical is fine and all the tests are okay except the right ventrical is showing as dialated but restricted. He called it lazy. Does a heart cath. sound correct as a next step? Oh, she also had a nuc.med. lung perfusion Monday which was fine.

Hello,

Cannot say in your particular case, but generally, you can tell a lot on physical exam. There can be SMALL problems left over after a cardiac operation that causes changes with growth.

The right heart gets bigger if its workload is heavier. I see this in close to most adult patients due to COPD from cigarettes. No lung left for the heart to pump to. Doubt this is the case.

If there is any blood flow going back to the right heart due to valve or hole, it will do this. Mainly it's how much of a load the heart gets and the cath tells exactly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
