Suggest Treatment For Difficulty In Swallowing When Suffering From GERD

So I have had a sliding hiatal hernia since November 2011 and it has caused many problems. I have gerd, Barrett s esophagus, bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine and stomach. 3 weeks ago my throat began to swell up so I could barely swallow. Eating alone is difficult. I went to my primary care who gave me some meds to get rid if the swelling.that seemed to help. This week however the swelling came back and I feel like I can t eat anything or my insides will explode. However when I do eat it s gluten free food and for a drink rice milk and water. My question is is there something more I could eat and or do to manage the symptoms of everything or should I just go for the operation and be done with this? Please help....

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted your history of sliding hiatus hernia diagnosed in 2011, causing GERD, Barrett's esophagus, bacterial overgrowth in stomach and small intestine. Started getting painful swallowing 3 weeks ago with swelling and got treated by the Primary care Physician; got settles to recur again, the pain being so much that you feel it may explode. Taking gluten free food and rice milk and water.
I would advise you the following:
First of all, meet an ENT to get and examination and ENT Endoscopy to see if there is tonsillitis or some ulcer or mass present and to have biopsy if required.
Upper GI Endoscopy to see whether there is worsening or any additional problems.
Since you have multiple problems related to sliding hiatus hernia, you should get a proper evaluation by Surgical Gastroenterologist, have proper counselling whether the surgery will help you or not.
Till them take PPI like omeprazole, antacid, Domperidone to regulate motility and so on.
Take your time to have a good control of the symptoms and go for corrective surgery as required.
