Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband has had diarrhea for a week now. He is a beer drinker daily & has worked out in the heat several days this past week & has had an ear ache all week which he has used ear drops for? Gave him pepto bismol earlier which he could not keep down. Am worried he might be dehydrated or something else just dont no?
Hello. I have gone through your question and understand your concern. My suggestion in this case is to wait for a week as it looks more like acute diarrhea due to some infection which is not uncommon and usually subsides on its own without any medication. Diarrhea lasting longer than 2 weeks is considered chronic (does not subside on its own). At any given point regular intake of alcohol is harmful to health as it increases chances of gastric disorders as well like liver diseases and ulcers. As of now, stay hydrated(fluid replacement is top priority) using oral rehydration fluids that will also boost your sodium and electrolytes which are easily available over the counter. Avoid foods that will make it worse and prefer healthy natural source of pro biotics like yoghurt that will help bring back normal healthy bacteria lost due to diarrhea.Hope your concern is answered. Thank you.
